The first game of the season for all the boys against Underbank. There was tension, apprehension and excitement with the first forthcoming fixture of the season.
The team was led out on the day by Beau Miller. He led by example carrying his team forward and being involved in everything throughout the game and never stopped and showed his true leadership. Excellent.
Let's get back to the game. A game of two different halves. Stanley Rangers and Underbank fought a valiant first half many passes and runs but the home side were on top, scoring several unanswered first half tries, until a brilliant solo effort by Alfie Sykes woke the boys up and what followed was fantastic. We had to defend too much in the first half and could not contain Underbank's Man of the Match NO 1 Ethan Holt. Good, strong defensive first half.
The team talk at half time was amazing. The boys were asked for their thoughts and what we did wrong in the first half and their reaction and take on the half was great to see and the second half change was excellent.
Enough ranting let's get back down to pitch side and ask our roving reporter - no changes at half time on both sides. Second half just about to kick off. What a second half by Stanley Rangers. The team have blown the cobwebs away and listened to their instructions given. Stanley Rangers took the game by the scruff of the neck and took the game to Underbank. A remarkable change of fortune from defence to attack. The team ran, passed and kicked their way back into the game. There was a second half hat trick of tries for Alfie Sykes and Kian Newton as Kian and his teammates began to run the show. The team can be proud and all the individuals involved yesterday got a pat on the back. They outscored and out fought and played more in attack than defence than Underbank and contained their team in the second half. This will make them better for the season fixtures coming up.
