Birstall Victoria U12s 6 Stanley Rangers U12s

Stanley continued their good league form with a
comfortable win over last seasons bogey side.
Stanley started the game receiving the kick off from Birstall and again
made life difficult for themselves as the ball bounced into touch.
However they showed great desire in defence as they managed to keep
Birstall out for 2 consecutive sets on their own line. From this point on
Stanley really stamped their dominance on the game and in the 5th minute
Zack Leaworthy jinked his way over for the opening score, conversion
missed. 0 - 4. Stanley didn’t waste time in adding a second as Riley
Britton continued his excellent early season form, broke through the
middle of the Birstall defence and ran the ball in to score under the
posts. Josh Chapman added the conversion, 0 - 10. Birstall came back at
Stanley though and after an error gave them some good ball possession they
took their opportunity to register their only try of the game when their
nippy hooker scooted across field and managed to get on the outside of the
Stanley defence, to score in the corner. The Birstall kicker nailed an
excellent touchline conversion. 6 - 10. Stanley’s response to conceding
was to up the intensity in defence and after restricting Birstall to
limited metres they collected the ball on half way and after a couple of
strong carries, Riley Britton repeated what he had done earlier to break
clear for his 2nd try of the match. George Britton converted. 6 - 16.
Stanley’s next score came when Riley Britton turned provider, when after
looking like he would register his hat trick he made sure of the score by
passing to Finley Tate to go over in the corner unopposed. Conversion
missed. 6 - 20. Stanley managed to score 1 more before half time after
again working the ball to the left a well timed pass again put Tate over
in the corner for his 2nd of the match. Conversion missed. 6 - 24. HT
The 2nd half saw more of the same with committed defence
from Stanley forcing Birstall to kick long from their own half and Stanley
taking the ball back well into the oppositions territory. This pressure
finally paid off when Riley Britton did register his hat trick, with
another of his trademark breaks and run to the line. Josh Chapman
converted. 6 - 30. Stanley’s team spirit really came to the fore with
every player looking to get in on the action both in defence and attack
and after they had been put under pressure from a Birstall kick close to
their own line Kye Robinson came up with an unbelievable relieving carry,
beating multiple defenders and running 90m only to be pulled down a couple
of metres from the try line, when he looked likely to score. From this
Stanley moved the ball left and Zack Leaworthy threw a dummy and stepped
past a despairing defender to score his 2nd of the game. George Britton
converted. 6 - 36. Birstall never gave in and tested Stanley’s line on a
couple of occasions but Stanley were in no mood to concede again and it
was Stanley who finished the game with another score as Riley Britton
again broke through a tired Birstall defence to get his 4th of the
game. George Britton converted final Score. 6 - 42.
