Dewsbury Celtic U12s 24 v Stanley
Rangers U12s 18
08.06.19
Stanley lost their first league game of the season in an end to end game
in horrible conditions.
The game started with Stanley receiving the kick off playing downhill and
they registered their first score of the game in their first set, after a
kick downfield was well chased by Joe Winder, he was rewarded for his
efforts as his opposite winger failed to kick the ball dead and he touched
the ball down. Missed conversion 0 - 4.
From the restart Dewsbury's kick off went high and held in the wind,
Celtic took full advantage as they reacted first to win the ball back,
Stanley didn’t re adjust in defence and Dewsbury quickly moved the ball
right and they managed to get on the outside to score in the corner. Try
converted 6 - 4.
After the frantic start the game things seemed to settle down although
both teams were guilty of coming up with errors whilst in possession,
handing good field position to each other. Stanley were the first to take
advantage from 1 of Dewsbury's errors when they worked their way close to
the line and Jayden Walker crashed onto the ball to force his way over.
Conversion missed 6 - 8.
Again Dewsbury responded quickly this time Stanley allowing Dewsbury's
dangerous stand off too much room and he threw a dummy to race through a
gap to score. Try converted 12 - 8. HT
The second half saw an improved performance from Stanley going up the hill
and they seemed to take control of the game with their forwards carrying
the ball strongly and their defence seeming to get on top of Dewsbury.
After forcing an error in Dewsbury's half they worked their way up field
and another strong charge from Jayden Walker saw him get over for his 2nd
try of the game close to the posts. Try converted by Josh Chapman. 12 -
14.
Stanley again seemed to relax following their score and after coming up
with an error they again let Dewsbury back into the game, once again
Celtic moved the ball well in the conditions and they scored out to their
left. Try converted 18 - 14.
In what was proving to be a back and forth game Stanley again showed
character to drag themselves back in with a chance of salvaging something
when they upped their efforts in defence to force an error from the
opposition. After working their way into Dewsbury's 20 Riley Britton took
a short ball out on the left to split the defence and slide over for a
score. Conversion missed. 18 - 18.
With 5 minutes left to play it was either teams game and unfortunately for
Stanley it was Dewsbury that came up with the match winning score, with 2
minutes remaining on the clock. Try converted 24 - 18. Stanley didn’t give
in though and after forcing 1 more error in Dewsbury's half they had 1
final set to try and score however Dewsbury's defence held strong and
Stanley suffered their first league loss.
