Stanley Rangers Under 13s picked up their 1st win of the season with a hard-fought victory over Slaithwaite Saracens, 20-12.
Stanley took control early with a strong run and finish in the corner from forward Owen Hopkinson, conversion missed by Kian Rowley, Stanley's elusive backs causing damage with every run making space for hooker Lewi Bayliss to get over the whitewash in the corner for another unconverted try, Slaithwaite worked their way back into the match after some ill discipline from Stanley gave them field position and good work in the middle opened up space in the corner for an unconverted try. Stanley's forwards dug deep to make the hard yards, opening up space for Hopkinson to get over in the corner, Rowley converting a lovely kick from the touchline and soon after another elusive run from Lewi Bayliss got him over under the sticks Rowley converting again, Slaithwaite then hit back just before half time to close the gap to 20-8.
In the 2nd half Slaithwaite Saracens started well with only Stanley's last ditch defence keeping them out. Solid tackling from Harnetty, Hudson, Pemberton and Joe Hampshire holding up Slaithwaite players over the line, with 7 minutes remaining Saracens pressure paid off getting over out wide for an unconverted try, Stanley then dug deep to get out of their own half and hold Saracens till the final whistle.
Man of the Match award going to Stanley full back Kian Rowley.
