Vic Sellers Day - sunshine all the way
On a sunny Sunday, the 27th July, the special day planned by Stanley Sports and Social Club in the memory of Vic Sellers, who sadly passed away last year, was enjoyed by family, friends and club members. Stanley Falcons Cricket Club and Stanley Rangers ARLFC provided two teams for a cricket match and rugby match, whilst the Butchers Arms challenged the Stanley team at darts and dominoes. The final results were a victory for Stanley Falcons at cricket, Stanley Rangers at rugby and the Stanley side at darts and dominoes. Trophies, given by Cups 'n' Shields, were presented to the team captains. A bench and clock for the clubhouse in Vic's memory were on display and in the Clubhouse both a framed photo of Vic and his cricket umpire's cap framed have been placed in the lounge. Thanks to all those whose hard work contributed to such a successful day.Photos of the day are now available [ NEW: Vic Sellers Day ].
BARLA GB Young Lions Fund Raising
A barbeque for the Young Lions squad members will be held at the clubhouse on 23rd July, at 7.30pm. There will be the draw for the Grand Raffle and also a presentation. Everyone is welcome [ Events ]
BARLA GB Young Lions - Raffle
A grand draw to raise funds for the five Stanley Rangers players chosen for the BARLA GB Young Lions tour of Australia is currently underway. Prizes include a TV and DVD player, mountain bike, DVD player, mini CD player, bottle hampers and Super League match tickets. Tickets are only 50p each and are on sale at the clubhouse. The draw for the raffle will be made on July 23rd so hurry on down for the chance to win such great prizes.

Vic Sellers Day
Stanley Sports and Social Club have arranged a special day on Sunday June 27th to honour the memory of Vic Sellers, a long-serving supporter and worker for both Stanley Rangers and Stanley Falcons. This will be a family day to celebrate the life of Vic Sellers, doing all the things he enjoyed. It starts at 11.30 with a cricket match and a rugby match and darts and dominoes matches going on throughout the day. We are also having a barbecue. Everyone who knew Vic is invited to share in this special day [ Events ].

Aussie tours fund-raising news
Fundraising events organised by the club to help Carl Hughes raise funds for his BARLA GB Lions trip to Russia and Australia have been successful in helping him reach his target of £1500, with an Aussie BBQ night and flower demonstration evening. In addition, Stanley sponsor Tony Fascione of Tony's Fish and Chips in Outwood has agreed to be Carl's main sponsor. Many thanks to all our families, friends, supporters and sponsors for their fantastic generosity.
The five players selected for the BARLA GB Young Lions squad to travel to Australia in August - Richard Cattley, Craig Fawcett, Stuart Kain, Danny Kirmond and Gareth Whitehead - each have to raise £1500 towards the cost of the trip and are appealing to local individuals and businesses to help them raise the necessary funds. There will be a bucket collection for the lads at the Wakefield Trinity Wildcat's game against Leeds Rhinos on Friday 23rd April. Donations for raffle prizes will also be greatly appreciated.
BARLA GB Lions call up for Aussie Tour
Carl Hughes has been named in the squad for the BARLA GB Lions tour of Australia The tour will include a two-match Test Series against the Australian Aboriginals, as well as games against several representative sides. The Lions last clashed with the Aboriginals in late 2002, winning 30-6 at Robin Park, Wigan, and then 26-20 at Mount Pleasant, Batley a week later to wrap up a 2-0 test series success, so the tourists will be looking to bring home the trophy. The tour begins on June 22nd and finishes on the 17th July with the 2nd Test Match in Queensland.
Lions lose out in Final
Despite a brave effort from the BARLA GB Lions, Russia won the Victory Cup 26-4 in Moscow's Big Sport Arena on 20th May. In front of a 12,000 crowd Russia lead 10-4 at half time and pressure from the Russian forwards and their strong defence proved too much for the Lions to overcome.
Lions through to Victory Cup Final
The GB Lions have got through to the Victory Cup Final in Moscow with a 23-16 win against the French. More details will follow.
1st win to BARLA GB Lions
BARLA Great Britain Lions with seven players making debuts got off to a superb start in the Victory Cup with a hard fought win over the New Zealand Defence Force by 26-12. Carl Hughes was named as a substitute in the team and played in the second half [ Match Report by BARLA ]. The next match is against France on 13th May, kick off 5pm.
Under 18s Final rearranged
The Under 18s Final due to be played at Post Office Road, Featherstone last Wednesday 28th April was cancelled due to the bad weather. They will now be playing this Thursday 13th May at Stnanningley, 7pm kick off [ Directions to Stanningley].
Body Shop evening
On Tuesday 11th May at 7.30pm the clbuhouse will be hosting a Body Shop evenin to help raise funds for the Stanley Rangers Under 18s players selected for the BARLA GB Young Lions squad. All are welcome [ Events].
Academy Origin Series - White Rose victory
The Yorkshire Academy had a convincing 44-24 win over the Lancashire Academy at the Willows, Salford on Saturday 8th May. Ex-Stanley Rangers junior players Adam Robinson (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats) and James Endersby (Leeds Rhinos) both played in the winning team. The second leg of the series will be played before the Bulls-Rhinos clash at Odsal on the 5th June.
Sports Persons Dinner
Fund raising for the Under 18s players who have been selected to be in the BARLA GB Young Lions squad touring Australia continues with a Sports Persons Dinner at Stanley Community Centre on the 4th of June [ Events ].
RFL survey thanks
The RFL have sent their thanks to all who participated in their on-line survey on rugby league. There has been an excellent response and the results will be available later in the year.

Presentation Nights Dates
These are the dates for the Presentation Evenings for the following teams: Under 14s presentation night 2nd May; U12s Presentation night 8th May; U18s presentation night 21st May; U13s presentation night 28th May; U15s presentation night 12 June and the Open age presentation night 5 June.
Under 15s Final
The Under 15s will be playing against Smawthorne in the FAM Yorkshire Junior Rugby League Challenge Cup Final at Post Office Road, Featherstone on Monday May 3rd, kick off 11.45am.
Junior Academy Origin Series call-up for ex-Stanley player
Adam Robinson, former Stanley Rangers Under 16 player, has been selected for the Yorkshire squad to contest the Junior Academy Origin Series later this month. Adam, now playing for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Academy, will also be playing for a place on the England Academy tour of Australia and New Zealand in the summer. The Origin Series will comprise a two-match confrontation with the first game on Saturday 8th May at The Willows, Salford and the second match at Odsal Stadium on Saturday 5th June. Both kick offs will be at 3.40pm as they will precede the Super League matches. Coaching the Yorkshire squad will be Brian McDermott and Dean Sampson.
BARLA GB Lions match news
Carl Hughes has been named in the 21-man BARLA Great Britain squad that flies out to Moscow next week in pursuit of the Victory Cup, following a final training session on Wednesday at Eccles ARLFC. The competition, launched last year, comprises six teams. In Group A will be Ireland, USA and Russia whilst Group B includes BARLA GB, France and the New Zealanc Combined Services. Group B matches begin on May 10th, with New Zealand CS playing BARLA (k.o. 17.00) and then on the 13th May BARLA face France (k.o.17.00). The Victory Cup Final will be on May 20th at the Moscow Big Sport Arena Luzhniky. It is also hoped that the teams finishing second will also play off for the Bowl, with the bottom teams challenging for the wooden spoon. We wish Carl and the BARLA team the best of luck.
Alliance Cup Final
Stanley Rangers Open Age A team will take on Normanton A in the Alliance Cup Final at Post Office Road, Featherstone on Saturday 24th April at 3pm. Your support will be much appreciated.
Cup Final Victories
Both the Under 13s and the Under 15s won their finals at Belle Vue on Saturday 17th April. The Under 13s beat Westgate Redoubt 16-2 in the Dennis Beighton Memorial Cup Final, with Stanley's Matthew Wilde named as Man of the Match. In the Sandal Magna Coronation U15s Cup Final the Under 15s had a resounding win against Walton Warriors 56-6, with Stanley's Adrian Hampshire named as Man of the Match. Congratulations to both teams and their coaches!
BARLA GB Young Lions Man of the Match
Danny Kirmond (Stanley Under 18s) was named BARLA Young Lions Man of the Match after the 18-18 draw against France at the Robin Park Arena, Wigan on April 17th.
Cup Final Dates Reminder
On Saturday 17th April, two of our junior teams will be taking part in the Wakefield and District Amateur Rugby League Junior Cup Finals at Belle Vue, commencing at 12 noon. The Under 13s will be taking on Westgate Redoubt (kick off 1.15) and the Under 15s take on Walton Warriors in the Sandal Magna Coronation U15s Final (kick off 4.00pm). Your support for both our teams will be greatly appreciated.

Under 15s top of the league
With two matches still to play, Stanley Rangers U15s have become Yorkshire Junior League Division 1 champions. They remain undefeated this season and are in the final of the Yorkshire Cup. Jordan Horsfield has been named in the England U15 squad to play Wales in Aberavon on Good Friday (Result: Wales U16 10 - England U15 Combined Youth 26).
Under 18s triple success
The Under 18s completed a triple victory when they beat Eastmoor Dragons 46-18 in the Wakefield District Fotherby Trophy, adding this to the silverware they have already collected in the BARLA U18s National Cup and the Yorkshire League Cup.
Stanley pride in GB call-up
Five players from the Under 18s team have been selected for the BARLA Great Britain Under 18 Young Lions squad that will play France next month and tour Australia in August. Richard Cattley, Craig Fawcett, Stuart Kain, Danny Kirmond and Gareth Whitehead will form part of the squad that plays France on April 18th at the JJB Stadium at Wigan. Stanley Rangers club has provided the most players for the squad and congratulate the lads on their selection.
Easter Fun Day
On Sunday 4th April the Under 8s are hosting an Easter family fun day from 12 until 4pm. There will be games, an Easter egg hunt and photos and autographs from Super League players [ Events ].
Under 18s Finals victories
The Under 18s have completed two of their three cup finals this week with two hard fought victories. They beat Embassy Hull on Sunday 21st March 34-28 to win the BARLA Under 18s National Cup and then defeated Oulton Raiders 35-26 in a hard-fought game to win the Yorkshire League Cup on Wednesday 25th March. Their final game is on Sunday 28th March when they will be in the Wakefield Cup Final v Eastmoor at Post Office Road, Featherstone. kick off 2.30pm. Good luck to the team and your support will be greatly appreciated at this match.
Under 8s and Under 9s Players wanted

Under 17s Coach Award
Warren Jowitt, the Under 17s coach who has been battling with injuries has just achieved the a distinction after completing his qualifications as a Senior Coach. Warren, who has just left Hull FC by mutual consent, has returned to Hunslet Hawks to help on the coaching side. He will be having surgery on a shoulder injury at the end of this month and hopes to resume his playing career. [ Wakefield Today ].

The Under 15s who have an unbeaten record of wins this season have progressed to the Final of the Wakefield Cup when they will play Walton Warriors on Saturday April 17th at the Lionheart Stadium, Featherstone. Congratulations to the team and good luck with the final.
Cup Final dates announced
The date for the Wakefield and District ARL Brian McDermott Memorial City Plasterers Cup Final has been set at Wednesday 21st April at Wakefield Trinity's Belle Vue ground, kick off 7.30pm.
The Wakefield and District Youth Finals will be held at Featherstone Rover's Post Office Road ground on Sunday 28th March. The Under 16s final between Upton and Normanton Knights will kick off at 1pm and then Stanley Rangers Under 18s will be facing Eastmoor Dragons U18s in the final, kick off 2.30pm. A close win against Widnes St. Marie on Sunday 29th February saw the Under 18s also progress to the final of the BARLA National Cup - well done!
BARLA Lions squad announced

Stanley Ranger's Carl Hughes has been named in the BARLA Lions squad for this summer's international schedule. The Lions are taking part in the Victory Cup in May and then in June will be going Down Under to take on the Australian Aborigines in a proposed seven game tour.
Under 18s victorious
An excellent 28-16 win against the Milford Marlins gave the Under 18s victory in the BARLA Under 18s Yorkshire Final on Sunday 22nd February.
Cup Final venue confirmed

Stanley lads in scholarship success

Two Stanley junior players have been selected through the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats scholarship scheme to attend both RFL national and international team camps in the spring. Jordan Horsfield from the U15s and Taron Wildey from the U17s have been selected to represent the England U15s and U17s against France and Wales in the Spring. Well done!

Parking Arrangements
On match days the Clubhouse car park gets full very quickly and the Stanley Arms at the end of Lee Moor Road have kindly agreed to act as an overflow car park. If you park there, please park with consideration for the pub's customers. Stanley Rangers extend their thanks to the Stanley Arms for this generous help to the club.
Cupids and Devils Disco
There will be a Cupids and Devils Disco for adults only at the Clubhouse on February 7th,7.30pm. Fancy dress is optional and the entrance is only £1, which will go towards the food.
Yorkshire call-up
Carl Hughes is named in the Yorkshire squad which will be playing on Sunday 1st February at Stanningley, kick off 2.30pm against Lancashire.

Top of the League
Stanley Rangers went top of the CMS Yorkshire League Premier Division with a 22-10 win over Chequerfield over the weekend.

Stanley Rangers players were in action last week in a representative challenge match between Wakefield and Halifax and District. The match was played at Normanton Knights to celebrate the big switch on of Normanton's new floodlights. Ben Walker, David Baxby, Simon Carr, Paul Hughes, Stuart Godfreyand Carl Hughes all represented Wakefield, with Coach Mark Hughes and assistant coach Mark Riley also from Stanley Rangers. In an attacking match, the score was all square 16-16 with eight minutes remaining but a late try from Halifax just tipped the score. Stuart Godfrey made two conversions in the first half and scored an individual try from 40 metres in the second half.

Ex-Stanley Rangers player Mark Applegarth has been promoted to the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats first team. Mark, who has been an Academy player for two seasons, impressed the club with his training and playing. Diane Rogerson said:"It is important that young players joining our scholarship schemes at 14 years of age can see a natural progression of promotion through to being a Super League player". Added Shane McNally "..he is certainly one to watch".

Players and club officials have been deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Victor Sellers, a long-serving Stanley sporting stalwart. Vic, as he was known, collapsed and died suddenly shortly after watching Stanley Rangers beat Kettlethorpe in the Wakefield Cup quarter final at Kettlethorpe last Saturday. Vic had been a tireless worker for both Stanley Rangers and Stanley Falcons Cricket Club throughout his life. The cremations service will be at 11am at Wakefield Crematorium on Monday 1st December. Refreshments will be served at the Clubhouse afterwards. Our condolences go to Vic's family for their loss and the club offers this [ tribute ] to Vic.

Powergen Challenge Cup
In the only clash that does not feature a Conference side, Stanley Rangers take on Yorkshire League rivals Sharlston Rovers in the preliminary round of the Powergen Challenge Cup at home on Saturday 15th November. Please note that there will be an early kick off at 1.30pm. Your support for this match will be appreciated as Stanley aim upwards in the rounds of the Challenge Cup.
Yorkshire County Squad
Carl Hughes has been named in a 21 man squad picked for the BARLA Yorkshire Open Age side to take on the Australian touring team Manley at the Rams Stadium, Dewsbury on Sunday 16 November, kick off 3.00pm. Yorkshire have stepped into the breach following the withdrawal of York City Knights as original opposition because of re-seeding at the Huntingdon Stadium.

BARLA GB Lions call-up
Craig Cawthray and Kevin King have both been included in the BARLA Great Britain Young Lions training squad for the game against the touring Australian Institute of Sport side. Both Stanley Rangers players hope to be selected for the final 17 for the match which will be played at the JJB Stadium, Wigan on Thursday 27th November at 7.30pm.
Carl Hughes has been named in the GB Under 23s squad that the team playing against the touring Australian Combined Services will be chosen from. The game will be held at Robin Park Arena, Wigan on Saturday 8th November at 2.30pm. Cup News
Disappointment for Stanley Rangers as they lost to Stanningley 28-37 in the 4th round of the Yorkshire Cup. Stanningley will go on to play Elland in the quarter finals. However, Stanley beat Chequerfield in the Senior Cup on the 1st November.
BARLA GB U23s call-up
Carl Hughes has been selected to play in the BARLA Great Britain Under23 side. In their first game against the Combined Services on the 25th October, at HMS Caledonia, Edinburgh, the GB side came out winners 42-16. Their next match will be against the Australian Combined Services
on Saturday 8th November, at Robin Park Arena, Wigan, kick-off 2.00pm. Admission is £4, with concessions £1.
Bonfire Night
The traditional bonfire and fireworks display will be held at the Clubhouse on Saturday, 8th November when the fire will be lit at 6.30pm.

Stanley Rangers face Stanningley in the 4th round of the Tetley's Yorkshire Cup on Saturday 25th October, kick off 2pm. All supporters are very welcome.
Ex-Stanley Rangers players David Foster and Matty Firth who were in the victorious Keighley Cougars side that won the National League Two Grand Final, had further success this week when they played in the England National League Two side that beat New Zealand A 27-8 at Cougar Park, Keighley on Wednesday 23rd October.

Yorkshire Cup 3rd round victory
Stanley Rangers had a comfortable 50-10 victory over East Hull. A strong second half display saw Dave Baxby scoring a hat trick and Carl Hughes adding four tries. Stanley now meet Stanningley in a home fixture on the 25th October.

National League 2 Grand Final
Ex-Stanley Rangers players David Foster and Matty Firth will be in the Keighley Cougars team facing Sheffield Eagles in the National League Two Grand Final to be played on Sunday 5th October at the Halton Stadium, Widnes, kick off 1.45pm. Both players began in the Stanley Rangers junior teams and have also played for Wakefield and Halifax. The match will also be shown on Sky along with the National League 1 Grand Final with Salford City Reds v Leigh Centurions and will be on at the Clubhouse.
