GREAT RESULTS IN THE BARLA YORKSHIRE CUP FIRST ROUND |
23.10.12
The first round of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup for junior teams took place last weekend. This is a winter competition and our junior teams are playing in the age groups that they would be in the winter leagues. The Under 15s (playing as the Under 16s) travelled to Queensbury and won 36-6; the Under 15s A received a bye; the Under 13s (playing as the Under 14s) beat Siddal comprehensively 62-0; the Under 12s (playing as the Under 13s) beat Holderness Vikings 20-4 and the Under 11s (playing as the Under 12s) had a close win over Stanningley 9-8.
The draw for the seven age groups, in the BARLA Yorkshire County youth and junior cups round two, was a real out of county affair. Visiting Cumbria County officials who were at Sharlston Rovers ARLFC for the BARLA County Tri-Series under 17’s Yorkshire v Cumbria game, were only too willing to lend a hand to assist Carole Land in carrying out the draw for the BARLA County showpiece event. The Stanley Rangers junior team draws are as follows: the Under 12s take on Siddal; the Under 13s also take on Siddal at home; the Under 14s are at home to either Holderness Vikings; the Under 15s are at home to West Hull and the Under 16s are at home to Dewsbury Moor. |

Jordan Howden was the star for the Rangers with the Pillmoor brothers (Josh and Callum) never giving a backward step for the Knights. Super League referee Ben Thaler was on hand to present the trophies.
On Day Two, Upton staged the games in bright sunshine. First up was the Under 14s final with Stanley Rangers who are Yorkshire Cup holders and National Cup quarter finalists, taking on Upton who are three leagues below. Upton put up a tremendous fight and the local crowd rose to their gallant efforts, but Rangers are a strong side, running in fourteen tries with a 74-0 win, with Stanley's Liam Senior scoring a hat trick. The Upton trio of Harley Axe, Josh Hirst and Jordan Taylor never stopped giving 100%. Next up it was Westgate Wolves who took the uUnder 15s trophy. Having defeated Stanley Rangers in the first round, the Rangers 'A' team qualified for the final who put up a great performance in the 28-0 score line. Ware took the Man of the Match honours but Danny Johnson took the plaudits for an outstanding display.

CLUB DIGS DEEP IN SPONSORED WALK |
29.03.12
Thank you to the supporters, players, committee and friends, numbers were well over 50 who took part in the Christmas walk to raise funds for cancer research and the rugby club. The total raised was a brilliant £2800; each will receive £1400 of much needed funds. The walk took place on 27th December 2011 on a beautiful winter’s day consisting of either a 3 mile or 9 miles. The youngest was Libby Lloyd at just 1 year old, along with veterans couple Barry and Barbara Tomlinson. A special mention must go to John Holdroyd who raised £500 himself with quite a few other people raising over £100, well done!
A number of people have asked if we are going to do it again next year, it would be great if we could get more of the age groups taking part doubling or tripling the numbers which would increase the money raised for charity and the club.
(Thanks to Mick Robinson for this item) |

RANGERS LOSE OUT AT CROSFIELDS |
11.09.11
Stanley Rangers travelled to Crosfields but were disappointed to lose out 24-32. With half an hour of the first half played, Stanley’s first score was created when ex-Castleford Dean Samson’s offload in mid field opened a gap for standoff Danny Grice to use his pace to score under the posts swiftly followed five minutes later by an unconverted try from Charlie Ellis. With the half time score at 24-10, the second half saw Stanley adding pressure to the home side and Dean Samson used his weight advantage running at Crosfield's outside back to score on Crosfields right, converted by Abson. Less than two minutes later a tiring defence let Danny Grice in for his second try converted by Joel Marsh. However Crosfields withstood Stanley's attacks and added extra points to take the game 32-24.

WILDCATS VISIT STANLEY RANGERS |
23.08.11
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have been holding their annual summer programme of activities which included an evening skills session for junior players at the clubhouse. Current first team players Mattie Wildie and James Davey who came through as juniors at Stanley Rangers came along with Development Officers and Richard Cattley and Gavyn Lightowler to deliver a skills session finishing off with small-sided games. All the children had to brave a rainy evening but enjoyed themselves and each child received a ticket for the Castleford game. Wildcats Community Development Officer Richard Cattley, a Stanley Rangers player, said "It's good to see the players turn up to support the community events we hold. The players are the people the children aspire to be and it means a lot to them that they can turn up to things like this and put something back. The fact that they are both ex-Stanley players make them even more of a role model in the kids' eyes. I'ld like to thank Matty and Jimmy for giving their time up tonight."
